Each section plays itself out in one session: everybody meets everybody, and the winner of the section goes through. In a section of three, only game 1 is known in advance — games 2 and 3 depend on who loses it, which is why they name a rule rather than two players.

The third player marks. Where a section has only two, the venue supplies a marker.
